The Government has now Announced that £73m of funding for major housing and community improvements over three years 2004-2006. Some of that money has been earmarked for the Sunderland Road area....Link Updated 27th April 2004.

The rumours now say the 'Duke' will open again as a
Pub because the developers were not allowed planning permission to change the
building into accommodation. Well done the planning department !!
9th April -
Now even the Pubs are closing. The 'Duke of Connaught'
which has traded for over 100 years closed today and the rumour
is that the building is being turned into flats for asylum seekers.
